There are continually changes occuring in the base code. Support of Linux and other UNIX is also available, just not as unconstrained download since the entire source code must be distributed. Check often if you want to stay at the bleeding edge - the distribution may be changed as often as daily if an appropriate request arrives. I do not believe in static versions - any licensed user is free to upgrade to the most recent set of fixes and enhancements (policy, of course, subject to change).

Important! Potential Installation Problems (November 2007):

Symptom: The install of version 14 goes smoothly. However an error immediately occurs when run implying that the package needs to be re-installed.
Fundamental Cause: Migrated to the 2005 version (v. 14) of the Microsoft C compiler from the 1998 version (v. 12) to take advantage of speed improvements. Executables from this compiler version only run on systems with the development package installed, or that have had a DLL with redistributable code installed.
Fix/Workaround:

Download and install the Microsoft C++ redistributable library vcredist_x86.exe. You can also download this package directly from the Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en.
Download version v12 instead. With very few exceptions, the code is identical and this version does not have the problem.

Problem Reports: Please send me any reports of unusual behavior. With every compiler upgrade are inevitable incompatibilities. I will fix them as quickly as possible. Because I am actively running V14, also let me know if anything breaks in V12. I probably will not discover such problems on my own.

General Information:

Licensed Users:

The serial number accompanying your original disks (Windows license) will continue to unlock all updates and revisions. Versions after fall 1998 will automatically recognize previous serial numbers -- just enter BETA-02-0000-aaaa or any other string. Note that each upgrade contains all files for a complete installation. Because of my current understanding of the Microsoft Installer requirements, it is necessary to uninstall the previous version before installing a new one. Someday this may be eliminated.

Test and Evaluation:

The current version (complete package) can be downloaded and installed for test and evaluation purposes. This is the full implementation with no crippleware restrictions. During install, the serial number should be entered as BETA-02-0000-aaaa. This temporary license is valid for 30-180 days; at the end of the period, you will be annoyingly reminded to purchase a full license and/or download a new version, but the package will continue to work without any restrictions. You are free to download versions for as long as you want -- each expires in something like 30-180 days. I prefer this method as you are forced to get any and all fixes in a reasonable timeframe.

Entering a new serial number:

On Windows versions, the serial number can be modified from the Help menu on the toolbar. Enter the valid serial number to be stored in the system registry.

UNIX Licensees:

The source code tree is on this site, but hidden. Please send e-mail to support@genplot.com and get Prof. Thompson to send you the information. You may have to request more than once to get him to respond.

Version Information:

Both the combined RUMP/GENPLOT and GENPLOT alone are now available for download from this site. The name is either rump_setup.exe or genplot_setup.exe as required. Installing the combined version will not affect operation if you have a GENPLOT only license.
For NT, the download is a single installation file. For OS/2, it is a ZIP that must be expanded locally.
Version information is available only as the link date. Use the VERSION command in RUMP or Genplot to see the current revision date.
File size is approximately 5 MB (Microsoft bloat, not mine). A full install still requires barely 5 MB of hard disk space. Sorry that I'm not supporting the hard disk manufacturers more. Reaching 10 GB of space requirements in an application such as Microsoft Office is far beyond the reach of mere mortal programmers.
