Change to the code occurs continuously – adding features as needed for my or colleagues’ research activities. Support of Linux and other UNIX is also available, just not as unconstrained download since the entire source code must be distributed. Check often if you want to stay at the bleeding edge - the distribution may be changed as often as daily if an appropriate request arrives – or I may forget to update for a considerable number of months. I do not believe in static versions - any user is free to upgrade to the most recent set of fixes and enhancements.

Important! Installation Problems:

Symptom: The install goes smoothly. However a run-time error occurs suggesting that the package needs to be re-installed.
Fundamental Cause: Microsoft added a new feature (virus?) called the manifest in the 2005 version of the compiler. The manifest allows an application to run only if the correct runtime DLL is present. Fortunately, multiple versions of the runtime DLLs can co-exist “side-by-side” on your system.
Solution: Download and install the Microsoft C++ redistributable library vcredist_x86.exe. I have been unable to identify a specific link at Microsoft that gets the correct version. Use the one provided here.

Warning: I am considering an upgrade to the 2008 or 2010 version of the compiler and one may expect even more features (viruses) from our friends in Redmond.

Updating:

Due to limitations of the install program, you must uninstall the current version before installing the update. Customization under “local” will not be lost.

Users with a real license (thanks for supporting my Fresca habit):

Your original serial number will continue to unlock all updates and revisions. If you just upgrading and have previously entered the serial number, the program will discover it when first run. Just enter BETA-02-0000-aaaa or any other string during the install.

Test and Evaluation Serial Number (BETA-02-0000-abcd):

The current version (without restrictions) can be downloaded and installed using the serial number BETA-02-0000-abcd. This license is valid for 60-180 days and can be renewed indefinitely. At the end of the period, a 10 second delay will encourage you to return here and download an updated version. You are free to download versions for as long as you want. I prefer this method as you are forced to get fixes and improvements in a reasonable timeframe.

Entering a new serial number:

On Windows versions, the serial number can be modified from the Help menu on the toolbar.

Linux and Unix versions:

The source code tree is on this site, but hidden. Please send e-mail to support@genplot.com and get Prof. Thompson to send you the information. You may have to request more than once to get him to respond.

Version Information:

Both combined RUMP/GENPLOT and GENPLOT alone are available.
For Windows, the download is a single installation file. For OS/2, it is a ZIP that must be expanded locally.
Version information is available only as a link date. Use the VERSION command to see the current revision date.
File size is approximately 5 MB, and the full install requires even less. Sorry that I'm not supporting hard disk manufacturers. Reaching 10 GB (Microsoft Office) is far beyond the ability of mere mortal programmers.

The link date posted here is a lower limit only. This page is not updated as often as the program.
Requires the vcredist_x86.exe download to run unless you have Visual Studio 2005 or another application has already installed the package.
